Pre-New 52, a fair selling book in this tiny comic store of mine was Wonder Woman. At the time of its greatest success, it was beng written by one of the few female voices in the comic book industry, Gail Simone. After she left that book the sales on it dropped by about 30%. I was delighted to see her signed on to write a book in need of help after the reboot, the pull box went pretty much to zero after we found out Stephany Brown would no longer be, Batgirl. Which before the DC relaunch actually was doing pretty well with followers of the character who at the time was not Barbra Gordon. The books sale dropped immediately at first and over the course of the year have steadily improved, peaking with this recent cross over with Death in the Family. The character has been tough and classy and maintained the steamlined appearance of its predacessor.

It is unfortunate that DC has decided to drop Simone from their writting staff on this book. The industry has far to few female voices in it as it is, who are writing about females for a general audience. What DC and comics do not need right now is more cheesecake comics if they want to continue to attract new readers specifically the HUGE base of young female readers that are waiting for a superhero comic aimed at them.

I don't know what is to come from DC, I actually try not to delve to much into spoilers, I do like a good suprise you see. While I'm doubtful that the book will suffer much, IF and only if the new writing is good, I know that Simone isn't a voice they should cassually dismiss. If you need to move creators around, sure, do so, do what is best fo the story and for business DC, but please for goodness sake try to retain something that can breed a wider and more successful readership. All crops need to be nutured along to grow and you always need to hold back some seed to plant next season.
